Brittany Bowlen, the daughter of Broncos Owner Pat Bowlen, formally announced that she "wants to succeed her father as the team's controlling owner," according to Ryan O'Halloran of the DENVER POST. Bowlen on Saturday before an event for the Global Down Syndrome Foundation said, "I do have ambitions and goals to one day be the controlling owner of the Denver Broncos. I'll keep working toward those goals. I'm not there yet. But I really believe I can get there." The 28-year-old Bowlen has degrees from Notre Dame and Duke and "worked for two years for the NFL" in N.Y. She currently works for global consulting firm McKinsey & Company, and she said, "That's my focus. ... It's going to help me a lot. It's really important I get experience outside of the football industry." O'Halloran notes Bowlen's interest in the team comes after Beth Bowlen Wallace, one of Pat Bowlen's children from his first marriage, in May "expressed her desire to be the next controlling owner." With both Brittany and Beth showing interest in the team, it is "unlikely the Broncos will be for sale" after Pat Bowlen's death (DENVER POST, 10/21). THE ATHLETIC's Nicki Jhabvala noted this was the first time Brittany Bowlen "publicly declared her desire" to take over the team. Bowlen, who previously "spent about a year in the Broncos business department," does not "have a timeline to rejoin the team." Bowlen did address her sister's interest in the Broncos, saying, "I really can't speak for Beth. But what I do know is the way my dad laid out this trust is that all of my siblings have a right to pursue this goal, and I support them in pursuing that goal" (THEATHLETIC.com, 10/20).
UPDATE ON PAT: Brittany Bowlen gave an update on her father's health, saying he is "doing OK." She said, "Alzheimer's is a very hard disease. He is the most stoic Alzheimer's patient" (AP, 10/20).
