NBA Media Notes: The Athletic's Charania Already A Top Insider

In Chicago, Adam Lukach notes at age 24, The Athletic's Shams Charania already "stands as one of the most-followed, highest-profile NBA reporters in the biz." In a league where "player movement and off-season drama have taken center stage, scoops have become currency for media members, and few folks get scoops like Charania." He made his "own way, essentially, cold-contacting people in the league beginning at age 17 and relentlessly working (and networking)." He has been "breaking news since his teen years, eventually gaining a national profile and a job at Yahoo Sports" before heading to The Athletic this August (CHICAGOTRIBUNE.com, 10/16).

NEW ON THE COURT: Angel Gray is "joining the on-air team" for FS Ohio's broadcasts of Cavaliers games this season. She will serve as the new "sideline reporter," replacing Allie Clifton, who "left over the summer after six seasons to join Spectrum Sportsnet." The other new addition to FS Ohio's Cavs broadcast team is Cayleigh Griffin, who will "serve as host on the network's digital platforms and feature reporter for 'Cavs HQ' and 'In The Paint.'" She comes over from FS Southwest where she covered the Spurs (Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 10/17).

DA BULLS: Chicago-based media sports reporter Robert Feder noted a trio of Bulls fans have been "hired to host 'Bulls Outsiders,' an interactive talk show to air live after every Bulls game this season on NBC Sports Chicago." Matt Peck, David Watson and John Sabine were "chosen from among dozens of candidates who submitted one-minute video auditions." The new show will "air immediately after 'Bulls Postgame Live'" at about 10:00pm CT. NBC Sports Chicago VP/Content Kevin Cross said the show "directly involves" Bulls fans in the dialogue (ROBERTFEDER.com, 10/16).
