USC Sees Revenue Gains For Football Program, Athletic Department

USC's revenue increase is primarily resulted from a football schedule that included seven home gamesGETTY IMAGES

USC football last season earned its first Pac-12 conference championship since '08 and a second consecutive New Year's Six bowl berth, and those feats "helped raise the athletic department's financial figures," according to Joey Kaufman of the ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER. The athletic department's total revenue rose to $116.9M for the period covering July 1, 2017, to June 30, 2018, an increase of about $3.8M from the previous year. Total expenses were $116.9M. USC's football revenue increased to $60.1M, "up slightly by $334,096." Expenses reached $32.9M, rising by $2.8M. USC, a private school, is "not required to disclose the revenue and expense figures it provides to the NCAA." The revenue increase from '17-18 is "primarily resulted from a football schedule that included seven home games, including a sold-out, prime-time contest with Texas." USC Senior Associate AD, COO & CFO Steve Lopes said that UT-USC was the "first football game to be sold out' since '13. USC usually plays "six home games in a season, as with this fall." Lopes said that expenses for football have "increased in recent years due in part to new NCAA rules that include cost-of-attendance stipends given to players" (ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, 10/16).
