A's, Official Radio Home Appear To Split After Rocky Season

It "became clear Friday" that the A's and longtime radio partner KGMZ-FM had split up despite "neither the team nor the station" officially announcing it, according to Geracie & Harrington of the San Jose MERCURY NEWS. The A's tweeted a "five-second video clip of radio equipment being wheeled out of a room." Although the location of the room is "unknown -- it appears to be a broadcast booth" at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum -- both the team and the station are "identified with signage." It had been "clear since spring" that the A's and KGMZ's relationship was "on the rocks." A's President Dave Kaval in April noted this season was the "final year" of the team's contract with the station, and "asked fans on Twitter to weigh in on whether the A's should seek a renewal." There has "long been grumbling among fans that the station doesn't give enough attention to the A's," favoring instead to cover the Warriors and Raiders. Whichever station the team moves to next is "anybody's guess at this point," but wherever the team "ends up, it will be their 15th radio home since they came to Oakland" in '68 (San Jose MERCURY NEWS, 10/14). In California, Jim Harrington noted the A's' tweet confirming the split from the station was "scathing." The video was accompanied by the message, "It's not us, it's you." KGMZ had been the A's "flagship station" since '11 (MARINIJ.com, 10/13).
