White Happy With UFC 229 PPV Buys Despite Not Cracking 3 Million

Despite not cracking 3 million, White said UFC 229 was "way over" 2 million PPV buysGETTY IMAGES

UFC President Dana White said he is in a "much better mood" about UFC 229 and its aftermath now that PPV numbers are "starting to roll in," according to Ken Pishna of MMA WEEKLY. White said, "We didn’t do 3 million, but it’s so hard to crack 2 million. Even (Mike Tyson vs. Evander Holyfield) was at like 1.995 (million buys). Things like that didn’t crack 2 million. We’re way over 2 million, so I’m happy" (MMAWEEKLY.com, 10/8). FORBES' Trent Reinsmith noted if the UFC 229 PPV buys do "eclipse 2 million, those numbers will surpass, by a significant amount, the PPV that stands as the current best seller, UFC 202," which was headlined by a rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz. It is believed that the event "had 1.6 million PPV buys." UFC does "not release official numbers for any of its PPV events." If UFC 229 does "end up being the highest selling PPV in UFC history, McGregor will have headlined the top four PPV events ever" (FORBES.com, 10/8).
