Wheels & Deals: Castroneves, Logano Appear On Pennzoil Bottles

Pennzoil has launched limited-edition five-quart synthetic motor oil bottles featuring the likenesses of IndyCar/IMSA driver Helio Castroneves, NASCAR driver Joey Logano and NHRA driver Leah Pritchett. The bottles are an extension of the Shell brand’s "My Car" campaign that launched in July and was designed to highlight how race cars need motor oil changes like regular cars. The bottles, which are being sold in different viscosity levels, are available exclusively at Walmart.

WHERE THERE'S SMOKE...: Philip Morris Int’l has launched a new campaign in conjunction with F1 team Scuderia Ferrari called Mission Winnow that will aim to show how the tobacco conglomerate is trying to re-position itself for what it calls a “smoke-free future.” The company launched the campaign at Japan’s Suzuka Circuit, where F1 is racing this weekend. It includes different spots trying to emphasize that Philip Morris is looking to reinvent itself as a company and comparing itself to the way Ferrari works to advance itself. Philip Morris has a longtime deal with Ferrari, but F1’s ban on tobacco advertising has forced the company’s presence to be relatively muted in recent years.

CRASH COURSE: New Sonic Automotive CEO David Smith said that the company is thrilled with the exposure its Echo Park used-car dealership brand got last weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway’s Roval. CMS sold F1-style signage to a half-dozen brands for last weekend’s action, and Sonic sought the exposure to both promote its forthcoming Echo Park location in Charlotte and to build out the brand nationally. Driver Bubba Wallace slammed into a tire barrier that had Echo Park signage last Saturday during practice, gaining some exposure on social media. A bigger boost came from driver Chris Buescher getting Echo Park signage attached to his rear bumper during a crash in Sunday’s Cup race on NBC.
