Facility Notes

Erie County (N.Y.) Exec Mark Poloncarz said that the county is not looking to add a new Bills stadium to the discussion of where to build a new convention center because the county "can't afford it" and Bills co-Owners Kim and Terry Pegula "aren't demanding it right now." In Buffalo, Sandra Tan noted the lease agreement with the county for New Era Field "will expire in five years." Poloncarz said, "I still get people who come up to me on the street somewhere and say 'Hey, are you going to build a new stadium next year?' And my answer is no. We don't have the money for it. It's not in the cards right now" (BUFFALO NEWS, 10/2).

BEER HERE: SOUTHFLORIDA.com's Phillip Valys reported Funky Buddha Brewery has "struck a three-year partnership" with the NHL Panthers for a "new craft beer and taproom" at BB&T Center. The 80-foot long taproom "sits on prime real estate inside the BB&T Center, wedged inside the arena's main lobby across from the Pantherland merchandise shop." The taproom will "offer zero chairs or barstools," but will have 12 taps that will "dispense core beers" (SOUTHFLORIDA.com, 10/3).

MAKING A CHANGE: In Raleigh, Jane Stancill reported the Univ. of North Carolina will change the name on a plaque at Kenan Memorial Stadium to "distance the university from William Rand Kenan Sr., who was involved in the Wilmington racial violence of 1898." The plaque on the stadium will be "altered to honor William Rand Kenan Jr., Kenan Sr.'s son." Kenan Jr. is the "well-known namesake of many things at UNC," but his donation that built the stadium was "in memory of his parents" (NEWSOBSERVER.com, 10/3).
