NESN's Remy Doesn't Plan To Retire, But Will Cut Back MLB Schedule

Remy returned to the airwaves for a brief cameo yesterday as a way of saying thanks to his supportersGETTY IMAGES

NESN's Jerry Remy said that he will "not retire from calling Red Sox games," but acknowledged that he would have to "cut down on his schedule as he again fights lung cancer," according to Peter Abraham of the BOSTON GLOBE. He said that he would "not travel with the team any more at the insistence of his doctors." How many home games he calls "will be determined" at a later date. Remy yesterday "visited Fenway to sit in with Dave O’Brien and Steve Lyons for one inning in the second game of a doubleheader" against the Orioles. Remy "finished a four-week course of radiation this week" (BOSTON GLOBE, 9/27). In Providence, Bill Koch notes Remy's contract calls for a "115-game schedule." Remy said of lessening that workload, "I’ve got to look at a number that I can work with and they can work with. The days of doing all the games are long gone. The days of doing 115 are also gone" (PROVIDENCE JOURNAL, 9/27).

TWITTER REAX: Red Sox radio announcer Tim Neverett: "Great to see Rem doing well. ... Wish him the very best." Bleacher Report's Steve Perrault: "Alex Cora tipping his cap to Jerry Remy up in the booth during the game. That was awesome. Cora just gets it." North Andover Eagle-Tribune's Chris Mason: "Really nice ovation for Jerry Remy, who gives a thumbs up and a salute from the NESN booth." Marshall Project's Andrew Cohen: "Be well, Rem Dawg. Go Sox." Breitbart News' Curt Schilling: "Hey meathead! Great news on your latest round of tests and happy as hell to hear you'll be back next year! Stay healthy and take care of yourself!"
