Filling The Nest: Cardinals Sell Ninth-Most Tickets In Club History

The empty seats at Busch Stadium on Monday for the Cardinals' matchup against the Brewers "masked a late surge of ticket sales," as the team has sold the "ninth-most tickets in club history," according to Derrick Goold of the ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH. The Cardinals have sold 3.4 million tickets this season and will "once again rank in baseball's top three" in terms of ticket sales. The team was "tracking toward around 3.3 million tickets sold as recently as a month ago before the team’s August revival and more-appealing style spurred sales to top 3.4 million." The Cardinals’ game Monday had a "ticket-sales attendance of 36,508, the highest in the majors that night." The turnstile (or actual) "attendance was 28,350." In the 13 September dates before Tuesday’s game, the Cardinals had "averaged 42,698 tickets sold per game," the "fourth-highest for September in the past decade." The average "tickets sold per game this September is the highest" since '15. Team officials said that the "no-show rate" has dropped since last season, when it was glaring enough that Cardinals Chair & CEO Bill DeWitt Jr. "took note." The team "tracks the no shows to determine interest in the team and how to adjust its ticket-sales approach as a result." Next season, the Cardinals are "moving their weekday first-pitch time" from 7:15pm to 6:45pm CT during April, May, September and half of August. The Cardinals "realize that may lead to smaller crowds at the start of the game," but the hope is that fans will "stay later" (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 9/27).
