Shields has quickly raised her profile in the sport with an undefeated record through six fightsGETTY IMAGES

Two-time Olympic Gold-medal winning boxer Claressa Shields will fight Christina Hammer in a "live Showtime telecast" on Nov. 17 in Atlantic City, according to John Niyo of the DETROIT NEWS. Shields' manager Mark Taffet said the stage is set for an explosive night that will "break barriers and set a new bar for women's boxing." Shields has "quickly raised the profile for her sport" in just six professional fights, in which she is undefeated (DETROIT NEWS, 9/26). In Michigan, Brendan Savage noted the fight has been "dubbed 'Breaking the Barriers.'" Taffet said of the fight, "We believe that this is the biggest and most significant elite matchup in women's boxing history. It's the first time a women's fight has been the main event on a Saturday night in the history of premium television" (MLIVE.com, 9/25). RING TV's Mike Coppinger wrote the fight is set to be the "most high-profile women's boxing showdown in recent memory." If the bout "delivers as anticipated, women's boxing will be elevated" (RINGTV.com, 9/25).
