YAHOO SPORTS' Jeff Passan wrote there is "more prime everyday talent in baseball today than ever in the game's history." MLB Commissioner Emeritus Bug Selig "used to jabber about how he oversaw the game's Golden Era." Passan: "No. That is right now." There are "plenty of excuses not to be a baseball fan today," but just "don't ever let the quality of the players be one of them." This sport has "never seen anything like" the current crop of young stars (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 9/24).

PUTTING A DAMPER ON THINGS: In DC, David Driver writes MLB this season "suffered the most rainouts in more than two decades." Through Monday, the 57 postponed games this year were the "highest number" since '97, when 53 games were "called because of weather." There were "only 39 rainouts" last season (WASHINGTON TIMES, 9/26).

CASE RESOLVED: In Toronto, Rosie Dimanno reports Astros P Roberto Osuna has had an assault charge against him "withdrawn, with the complainant choosing not to testify against him." He made "no admission of guilt to a charge of domestic assault," agreeing to a one-year "peace bond" and paying a $500 court fee (TORONTO STAR, 9/26).
