SNY's Ron Darling Denies Report That He Wants Mets' GM Position

Darling (l) said he doesn't have time to work as a GM, nor does he probably have the skills to do itGETTY IMAGES

SNY broadcaster Ron Darling "emphatically denied a report that said he would take a meeting if the Mets asked him about the GM job," according to the N.Y. POST. Asked if he wanted to be the Mets' next GM, Darling said, "I don’t. I have three jobs. I work for three different networks. I don’t have time to work as a general manager, nor do I have probably the skills to do it" (N.Y. POST, 9/26). However, in N.Y., Bob Raissman writes Darling is "interested in the Mets GM gig." Darling: "I would be disingenuous if I didn’t say that if someone wants to sit down with me and talk about putting a team together I would absolutely take that meeting." Darling’s name was "floated by a local columnist as a possible candidate" for the position. Darling said that he had "not yet read the column but had heard about it." It was clear by his tone and answers that Darling had already "given some thought to taking on the key front office post before he was asked about it." Darling said, "I know a lot of things would have to change with my family to take that task on, but everyone who loves the game wants a chance to put a team together, and I’m no different" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 9/26).
