Lowe's Confirms It Won't Change Decision To Leave No. 48 Car

Sources say HMS has at least one lead with a brand to become a sponsor next year on the No. 48 GETTY IMAGES

Lowe’s will not reverse its decision to end its deal with Hendrick Motorsports after this year, ending hopes that changes in the company's exec ranks could see the home improvement chain change its mind. Hendrick had re-engaged Lowe's on the possibility after former Dollar General CEO Rick Dreiling was named Chair in July, but the sides did not reach an agreement. Lowe’s in a statement said, “Lowe’s has sincerely enjoyed our relationship with Hendrick Motorsports and Jimmie Johnson. We announced early this year, however, that we will redirect our investment away from NASCAR after completion of this season, and that has not changed.” Sources say HMS has at least one advanced lead with a brand to become a sponsor next year on the team’s No. 48 Chevy driven by Johnson, but its identity has not been learned.
