Renovations to Bryant-Denny Stadium are part of a 10-year Alabama facilities planGETTY IMAGES

The Univ. of Alabama System BOT "approved preliminary plans" for a $75.4M renovation of Bryant-Denny Stadium, according to Ed Enoch of the TUSCALOOSA NEWS. The proposed upgrades include "enhancing student and fan experiences by providing new social spaces, improved circulation, additional premium seating and upgraded spaces for athletes and recruits." The BOT also "waived the consultant selection process and approved an architectural agreement" with Birmingham-based Davis Architects, which has "previously worked on the stadium and athletic facilities, for the design of the project based on a lump fee" of $3.8M. The project "will be funded" with $40.4M in bonds and $35M from the Crimson Tide Foundation, the "fundraising arm of UA athletics." There is "no current timeline for construction to start." Meanwhile, Alabama AD Greg Byrne said that the athletic department "has raised" about $158M of a planned $600M for UA's 10-year Crimson Standard facilities master plan. The proposed Bryant-Denny renovations would be "part of the first of three phases of the 10-year plan" (TUSCALOOSA NEWS, 9/22).
