People & Personalities: Dodgers Extend Spanish Announcer Jarrin

In L.A., J.P. Hoornstra notes the Dodgers "announced a multi-year contract extension" for Spanish-language radio play-by-play man Jaime Jarrín through the '20 season. It will be Jarrin's 62nd with the team, "extending his run as baseball’s longest-tenured broadcaster." Jarrin, 82, will be "inducted as the 12th member of the Dodger Stadium Ring of Honor in a pregame ceremony Friday" (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 9/21).

OPEN FOR BUSINESS? THE BIG LEAD's Ryan Glasspiegel notes former ESPN NFL reporter John Clayton will "launch a new pro football website" within the "next few weeks." The subscription model site is "expected to be less than $10 a month." Sources said that it will have "coverage of gambling, fantasy, injuries, scouting and contracts as well as traditional news and commentary, produced by a combination of experienced football reporters (including ESPN alumni) and people who held jobs in and around the NFL" (THEBIGLEAD.com, 9/20).

ON THE SIDELINE: THE ATHLETIC's Richard Deitsch noted Fox' Sara Walsh on Sunday "will serve as the sideline reporter" for Saints-Falcons, marking her "first on-air assignment" since her last "SportsCenter" in January of '17. Walsh: "I’ve always had a great relationship with the folks over at Fox. ... Over the summer they reached out to me regarding the sideline opportunity and I’m incredibly grateful" (THEATHLETIC.com, 9/20). Meanwhile, UFC reporter Megan Olivi on Sunday will "work as a sideline reporter" for Giants-Texans on Fox. She is "also scheduled to work" Browns-Raiders next week. Olivi "credited her work during the heavily promoted Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Conor McGregor boxing match" last year as being a "catalyst for this NFL opportunity with Fox" (NEWSDAY, 9/21).

MOVERS & SHAKERS: NBC Sports Philadelphia has "hired Serena Winters as its new sideline reporter" following a decision to remove Molly Sullivan from its 76ers broadcasts. Winters comes from NBC Sports Northwest, where she "previously hosted the daily prime time sports show 'The Bridge.'" Winters will "cover the team as a multi-platform reporter, where it appears she'll also assume some of the responsibilities once held by former Sixers insider Jessica Camerato, who was also let go last July" (PHILLY.com, 9/20). Meanwhile, NBC Sports Chicago reporter Siera Santos is "exiting" after three years with the network. Santos was once the channel's White Sox reporter but "more recently had assumed other duties" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 9/21). Finally, longtime Boston Herald columnist Steve Buckley is "leaving the newspaper" to join The Athletic's Boston site. Buckley has "been with the Herald" since '95 (BOSTON GLOBE, 9/21).
