Univ. Of Texas Selects Populous For $175M Stadium Expansion Project

Completion of the south end zone will create an entire seating bowl for the first time in the stadium's historyPOPULOUS

Populous will "handle the design and construction" of the $175M "south end zone expansion" of the Univ. of Texas' Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, according to Brian Davis of the AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN. Construction will "begin in the summer" of '19 with "expected completion" by the '21 football season. The completion of the south end zone will "create an entire seating bowl for the first time in the stadium's 95-year history." The corners "will be filled in with what UT calls 'concessions-equipped terraces.'" Additionally, a "Longhorn-shaped balcony will be carved ... so it can be seen from the air." UT officials have said that there will be "no net increase in seating capacity." The expansion will "include a field-level club, similar to the one at AT&T Stadium, and a permanent location for the Longhorn Network's gameday broadcasts." UT AD Chris Del Conte is "responsible for raising" $125M out of the $175M total and has "already raised" $85M. The project will have 94 loge suites and 780 club seats, and Del Conte said that he has "already sold 12 loge suites" (AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN, 9/21). In San Antonio, Nick Moyle notes Populous has "completed high-priced expansion and renovation projects for a number of college football programs, including Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Purdue" (SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, 9/21).
