Minkah Fitzpatrick Says Bucs QB Can Take "FitzMagic" Trademark

Many took to social media claiming Ryan Fitzpatrick is more deserving of being called "FitzMagic"GETTY IMAGES

After he and his family were "badgered on Twitter for filing a trademark on FitzMagic," Dolphins S Minkah Fitzpatrick decided holding onto it was an "unnecessary headache," according to Jason Lieser of the PALM BEACH POST. Minkah Fitzpatrick said of Buccaneers QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, who has often gone by the nickname FItzmagic, "He can take it if he wants. He’s a certified vet. He’s a great football player. If he wants it, he can contact me and my people and he could have it." He added, "I really don’t think it was as big of a deal as people made it out to be." Fitzpatrick said that he has been "called FitzMagic since high school and was planning to sell merchandise bearing that name." He wanted to "trademark FitzMagic while he was in college, but was concerned that doing so would violate NCAA rules" (PALM BEACH POST, 9/20). ESPN.com's Cameron Wolfe noted several people, "likely believing that Ryan Fitzpatrick, who is older, was the true owner of 'FitzMagic,' began attacking Minkah Fitzpatrick and his mother via social media." Minkah Fitzpatrick's mother "responded with multiple tweets." One remains up "showing proof of the family making 'FitzMagic' jerseys for Minkah while he was at Alabama." Minkah Fitzpatrick said that he "plans to use the 'FitzMagic' trademark for apparel and that an apparel line is 'in the works'" (ESPN.com, 9/19).

GIVE THAT MAN A BEER: In Tampa, Christopher Spata notes the St. Petersburg Brewing Co. is "being opportunistic in naming its new double IPA 'Fitzmagic'" after Ryan Fitzpatrick. The brewery wrote on Facebook, "We here at the brewery believe that a man that passes for four touchdowns and 400 yards in the first two games of the season deserves a beer named after him" (TAMPA BAY TIMES, 9/20).
