Grey Cup Using 5-Day Festival To Drive Ticket Sales In Edmonton

There will be a "five-day Grey Cup party" in November leading up to the game, with 28 entertainment acts "coming to Edmonton" as part of the festival, according to a front-page piece by Dustin Cook of the EDMONTON JOURNAL. Tickets are "now on sale for the more than 50 events" running Nov. 21-25. More than 53,000 tickets for the Nov. 25 game at Commonwealth Stadium have "been sold," with less than 2,600 "still up for grabs" (EDMONTON JOURNAL, 9/20). Edmonton Eskimos BOD Chair Brad Sparrow, who also chaired the Grey Cup Festival Committee the last time the game was in Edmonton in '10, said, “It’s about four times the size as at our last Grey Cup here." In Edmonton, Terry Jones notes one thing "not announced" yesterday was the halftime show headliner. The entertainer "will be announced" at the Sept. 29 Blue Bombers-Eskimos game. Eskimos President & CEO Len Rhodes said it is "going to be a top-notch artist," and the deal "was signed" by the CFL last Friday. Rhodes said of the remaining tickets for the game, “We’ll sellout. Once they announce the halftime show and people start expecting their team to maybe get to the game, we expect the last tickets to sell.” Meanwhile, Jones notes three separate tailgate events "will be held at Commonwealth Stadium." Previously announced major activations included a "zipline, tube slide, street skiing and a bungee jump." One of the "surprise additions" announced yesterday was the "first Grey Cup eSports Tournament" (EDMONTON SUN, 9/20).
