Dolphins' Minkah Fitzpatrick Files For "FitzMagic" Trademark

Fitzpatrick has gone by the "FitzMagic" nickname dating back to his high school days in New JerseyGETTY IMAGES

Despite Buccaneers QB Ryan Fitzpatrick often going by the nickname "Fitzmagic" during the course of his NFL career, it is Dolphins S Minkah Fitzpatrick who has applied for a trademark of the nickname with the intention to "use FitzMagic to sell merchandise and apparel," according to Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com. A trademark application for "FitzMagic" was filed with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office last week and it was "primarily handled" by Minkah Fitzpatrick's marketing team and reps. The "FitzMagic" nickname has been "used for Minkah Fitzpatrick since his New Jersey high school days" (ESPN.com, 9/17). ESPN’s Mike Golic Jr. notes Minkah Fitzpatrick, a rookie, is now "finally liberated from everything in the NCAA’s rule books" and he can "go out here and make money on somebody else's image and likeness." Golic: "He learned from the NCAA. That’s the way to do it, make money off somebody else's labor” (“Golic & Wingo,” ESPN, 9/18).
