Mets Officially Moving Radio Broadcasts To WCBS Starting In '19

The move to WCBS brings an end to a five-year run of Mets baseball on WOR-AMGETTY IMAGES

Entercom and the Mets reached a multiyear agreement that will make WCBS-AM the new radio home of the team beginning in '19 and going through the '25 season. The broadcast rights include all regular season, Spring Training and postseason games, as well as Spanish-language broadcast rights. The station will also provide in-depth pre- and postgame coverage (Entercom). On Long Island, Neil Best notes the move "ends a five-year run" of Mets baseball on WOR-AM and also means Mets personnel "again will be able to appear as guests" on Entercom-owned WFAN. The Yankees were "heard on WCBS" through '13, after which they "displaced the Mets on WFAN." Meanwhile, Entercom’s announcement "made no mention of the status of the Mets’ current announcing team of Howie Rose and Josh Lewin" (NEWSDAY.com, 9/17). WFAN's Gregg Giannotti noted the move brings the Mets "back into the family." He said, "Hopefully, that means for the Mets fans out there that want to hear from their guys on the FAN, that we'll be able to do that now." WFAN's Boomer Esiason said the station partnered with the Mets at the "right time." Esiason: "Next year, they're involved, they're doing things. Good to have them back on the Entercom radio network. It's fantastic, it's good for all of us" ("Boomer & Gio," WFAN, 9/17).
