Charlotte Bowl Game Remains In Talks To Keep Belk As Title Sponsor

Belk has been title sponsor of Charlotte's annual bowl game since '11 and its deal expires after the '19 eventGETTY IMAGES

Talks are "ongoing" with Belk to keep the department store chain as title sponsor of Charlotte's annual bowl game, according to Erik Spanberg of the CHARLOTTE BUSINESS JOURNAL. Belk has been title sponsor since '11 and its deal expires after the '19 event. Belk Senior PR Manager Tyler Hampton said, "We're still considering (whether to renew)." Hampton added that the chain "wants 'to be a good partner' so that bowl organizers will know whether the company is staying on or another title sponsor is needed." Charlotte Sports Foundation Exec Dir Will Webb "hopes Belk stays on but is prepared to pursue various options" for both the bowl game and the companion Belk College Kickoff game on opening weekend, which this year featured West Virginia-Tennessee. Meanwhile, Webb expects to sign the ACC and SEC to "six-year contract extensions by this winter" for the Belk Bowl (BIZJOURNALS.com, 9/6).
