Louisville's Cardinal Stadium Expansion Ready For Home Opener

The final seat count for the expansion is about 5,400, increasing the stadium's capacity to about 60,400VINCE TYRA

Univ. of Louisville AD Vince Tyra said that the final stage of the $63M "expansion project" on Cardinal Stadium is "down to basic nuances," according to Jake Lourim of the Louisville COURIER-JOURNAL. Tyra said that the "final seat count" for the expansion is about 5,400, "increasing the stadium's capacity to about 60,400." That would put UL "seventh out of 14 teams in the ACC in capacity." Tyra said that the school will "light up the stadium in red before kickoff of Saturday night's game" against Indiana State (COURIER-JOURNAL.com, 9/5). In Louisville, Morgan Watkins noted at Saturday's game, fans will "finally get to experience" the upgrades the school "spent the last two years building." The expansion includes "field-level suites, premium boxes and club seats," as well as "sprucing up the concession stands." New seating sections in the north end zone will be "steeper than elsewhere in the stadium, but they were designed to make people feel closer" to the field. UL Senior Associate AD/Media Relations Kenny Klein said that the school spent over $39M on the expansion "so far, with future payments in the works" for the project (COURIER-JOURNAL.com, 9/5).
