The MLBPA has hired attorney XAVIER JAMES as Deputy COO, a newly created position. James most recently ran his own company, The James Group, and was General Counsel at baseball player representation firm Sheffield Management & Entertainment Group. He officially starts his new position Monday and will report to MLBPA COO KEVIN MCGUINESS. At the union, James will be involved in organizational, budgetary, and financial matters, and he will help coordinate the MLBPA's growing portfolio of business initiatives and programs. James will dissolve his own company and give up his MLBPA agent certification to take the new position. James is the latest hire MLBPA Exec Dir TONY CLARK has made recently to beef up the union's resources. Late last month, the MLBPA announced it was hiring veteran labor attorney BRUCE MEYER away from the NHLPA to the newly created position of Senior Dir of Collective Bargaining & Legal (Liz Mullen, Staff Writer).

Callaway spent 18 years with Pro Link Sports (BIZJOURNALS.com, 9/4).
