Tom Glick Ready To Tackle Ambitious Plans For Panthers

On of Glick's main objectives will be to work with local leaders to secure funding for team facilitiesGETTY IMAGES

New NFL Panthers President Tom Glick is charged with "overseeing the day-to-day business operations" of the club, and his appointment marked Owner David Tepper's first step to "deliver on some of his most ambitious off-the-field plans for the franchise," according to a front-page piece by Katherine Peralta of the CHARLOTTE OBSERVER. The Panthers had been without a team president since Danny Morrison "abruptly left" in '17. The team opted not to immediately replace Morrison and instead "operated for nearly a year under an alternative leadership approach" that included six execs "running the business side of the franchise." Since buying the team, Tepper has said that hiring a team president was a "priority." Glick is expected to "work with civic leaders on securing funding" for team facilities. During his time as COO with EPL club Manchester City, Glick "facilitated an overhaul" of Etihad Stadium that included "more seating, improvements in premium seating and improved fan amenities." In '15, Glick moved to N.Y. to "help launch" NYCFC as their president. Glick's MLS experience "makes sense for Tepper, who has suggested several times that he's interested in bringing an MLS expansion team to Charlotte." Glick's sports-entertainment focus also "doesn't hurt." Tepper has said that he "wants to expand the number of non-NFL events" at Bank of America Stadium to include "attractions like concerts and even high school football games." Hornets President & Vice Chair Fred Whitfield said that he sees Glick's appointment as a "fresh way the Panthers and Hornets can collaborate in business and in the community" (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 9/5).
