BB&T Takes Aggressive Approach To Venue Naming Rights In N.C.

BB&T has naming rights for seven venues in North Carolina, including Wake Forest's football stadiumWAKE FOREST UNIV.

BB&T’s "aggressive stadium naming rights pursuit" has "resulted in the bank placing its name on seven venues" in North Carolina, according to a front-page piece by Conor O'Neill of the WINSTON-SALEM JOURNAL. The Winston-Salem-based bank has naming rights for the home venues of Wake Forest football, the Single-A Carolina League Winston-Salem Dash and the Triple-A Int'l League Charlotte Knights, as well as the under-construction ballpark for the Independent Atlantic League High Point Rockers. The bank also has rights to two recreational soccer facilities, and it recently "acquired the naming rights" to N.C. A&T's football stadium. BB&T Triad Regional President Cantey Alexander said, "The average cost of a 30-second television commercial can be expensive, but once you’ve got your name on a stadium, there’s really no charge when a game is mentioned. It helps create more brand awareness whenever a game is played." BB&T "will pay the school" $1.5M: $100,000 annually for 15 years. The name change to N.C. A&T's BB&T Stadium was "made official July 1." The stadium also hosts a "lot of very large track events" (WINSTON-SALEM JOURNAL, 9/3).
