Sources: Bass Pro Shops Could Sponsor JGR If Truex Jr. Moves

Bass Pro Shops and 5-hour Energy split the majority of the season as the co-primary sponsors on FRR’s No. 78GETTY IMAGES

Bass Pro Shops could switch to Joe Gibbs Racing next year, according to sources, should driver Martin Truex Jr. complete a move there from Furniture Row Racing. The Truex-to-JGR scenario has begun picking up steam in recent days, as sources said that the driver has been exploring that option since the future of FRR is unresolved amid sponsorship questions stemming from 5-hour Energy’s forthcoming departure. Bass Pro Shops and 5-hour Energy currently split the majority of the season as the co-primary sponsors on FRR’s No. 78 Toyota; 5-hour’s deal is worth $10M annually, sources said, likely putting the Bass Pro Shops deal in the same range. Should Truex and Bass Pro Shops leave FRR, the future of the team would be thrown into further question. Neither FRR nor JGR have commented yet on the possible move.
