Dark Web: Clemson Program Continues To Stay Off Social Media

Clemson remains the only ACC team to institute a player-driven, team-wide social media policyGETTY IMAGES

Clemson football players "appear to be bucking the trend" of ever-growing social media use, as the '18 season marks the seventh consecutive year that the players have "adopted a team-wide, season-long ban on posting on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram," according to Scott Keepfer of the GREENVILLE NEWS. Clemson DE Austin Bryant said, “We don’t have time to be on social media, to be honest. So it’s no big deal.” Clemson remains the only ACC team to "institute a player-driven, team-wide policy, although N.C. State has had position groups that have elected to pass on social media during the season." Boston College Associate AD/Communications Jason Baum said, “We encourage our guys to use the platform -- we just educate them on how to do it the right way.” Some in the media have "questioned the practice, contending that it denies players the right to express themselves," but Bryant "scoffs at the notion." He said, "Just knowing the whole team’s not on social media, you don’t feel the responsibility to stick up for yourself and say something back" (GREENVILLE NEWS, 8/28).
