Patriots' Kraft, Cowboys' Jones Retaining Stakes In DraftKings

Patriots Owner Robert Kraft and Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones have "retained their investments" in DraftKings, even as the company has "shifted some of its focus from daily fantasy to traditional sports betting," according to sources cited by Purdum & Rovell of ESPN.com. Sources said that the stakes for Kraft and Jones are "small," each less than 5%. NFL VP/Communications Brian McCarthy said the current league policy "enables personnel to own equity interest in an entity that generates less than a third of its revenue from gambling-related operations." DraftKings "remains primarily a fantasy sports provider." However, DraftKings CEO Jason Robins recently said that he "believes the company will be focused on sports betting in two to three years." For now, DraftKings' sportsbook is "in its infancy" and only offered in New Jersey. However, the company is "looking to operate in additional states that legalize sports betting" (ESPN.com, 8/28).
