NHL Jets Become Latest Team To Move To Digital-Only Ticketing

True North Sports & Entertainment is "rolling out digital-only tickets" for NHL Jets fans this season at Bell MTS Place, according to a front-page piece by Ben Waldman of the WINNIPEG FREE PRESS. Fans "can't print tickets at home" anymore, and instead have to "have a smartphone using the NHL app." For people without mobile phones, tickets can also be "managed on a home computer or tablet, and picked up with government-issued ID from the box office." True North Senior VP/Venues & Entertainment Kevin Donnelly said that the move "isn't meant to exclude anyone from accessing the company's entertainment." Waldman notes the move to digital ticketing is "meant to keep pace with industry trends and standards, which generally are leaning to the digital side." Donnelly said that the change "aims to address the issue of reselling tickets." He said that when home-printed tickets are allowed, it is "not uncommon for scalpers to print multiple versions, which can then lead to fans showing up with a fake ticket they'd believed was authentic" (WINNIPEG FREE PRESS, 8/28).
