Hancock: Smith's Spot On CFP Committee Safe Despite Suspension

CFP Exec Dir Bill Hancock reaffirmed that Ohio State AD Gene Smith will remain on the organization's selection committee despite his suspension from the school through Sept. 16, saying he has "full belief in Gene's ability to make decisions in the selection process." Hancock appeared yesterday on CBS Sports Radio's "The D.A. Show" and noted Smith was "contrite" following the findings of OSU's inquiry into the handling of domestic abuse claims against former assistant coach Zach Smith. Hancock said of Gene Smith, "He made a mistake in judgment, which he acknowledged." Show host Damon Amendolara noted the CFP is able to remove a member of the selection committee based on the "way they handle their job." Hancock said, "It didn't rise to that level. If it had, we would have taken it to that level and we certainly would have discussed it" ("The D.A. Show," CBS Sports Radio, 8/27).
