Sources: PGA Could Hire Former Deutsche Bank Exec Waugh As CEO

There could be a "done deal" soon for the PGA of America to hire former Deutsche Bank Americas CEO SETH WAUGH as its new CEO, according to sources cited by Ted Bishop in a special to MORNINGREAD.com. Bishop, a former president of the PGA, cited sources as saying that an announcement is "possible before next month's Ryder Cup." The hiring of Waugh "could be a game-changer for the PGA." In '03, Waugh "created the PGA Tour’s Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC Boston." He holds a "proven record of hiring top talent," as evidenced by his having lured PGA Tour Commissioner JAY MONAHAN away from the Red Sox to run the Deutsche Bank Championship. Waugh later was "instrumental in helping Monahan land at the PGA Tour as head of the Players Championship." Waugh holds a "close personal relationship with Monahan, and that would prove to be highly beneficial to the PGA and the Tour" (MORNINGREAD.com, 8/24). Golf writer Geoff Shackelford writes hiring Waugh to fill PETE BEVACQUA's shoes could give the PGA "major credibility in upcoming negotiations and provide Waugh a challenge befitting his skill level and contacts." For the last three years, Waugh has been serving on the PGA's Advisory BODs as an Independent Dir. His current term would "expire in January" (GEOFFSHACKELFORD.com, 8/27).
