Fanatics Founder & Exec Chair MICHAEL RUBIN said that the company will bring in $2.3B in revenue this year, and he would "like to see" it eventually reach $10B in sales, according to a profile by Alexandra Wolfe of the WALL STREET JOURNAL. Rubin "faces a giant competitor in Amazon but says that he aims to stay out of a head-to-head battle by selling exclusive merchandise." He said, "Amazon’s success actually helped me create a highly differentiated business model. [It's] about designing, developing and selling directly to consumers our own products.” Rubin is "worth an estimated" $3B and also "owns a collection of e-commerce companies," including the members-only shopping service ShopRunner, and the discount apparel retailer Rue La La, which just bought the flash-sales site Gilt. Rubin said that he "thinks the Rue Gilt Groupe business will hit" nearly $1B in revenue this year. In the next several years, Rubin "hopes to buy an NFL team." Meanwhile, Rubin said, "I don't read. I don't watch TV. I haven't read a book since I was in my teens" (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 8/25).
