Steelers' Tomlin Cites Drones As Reason For Practice Facility Wall

The Steelers have "upped their spy-prevention game for this year's practices by building a giant wall structure to cover one of their three fields" at their Pittsburgh practice facility, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com. Four black pillars about two stories high "face an adjacent office building on Pittsburgh's south side, and for practice sessions the team can raise an attached giant black tarp." Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said, "This is interesting times, drones and so forth. We do what we've got to do to prepare and get ready to play to have a level and fair competitive playing field." Asked if he ever wonders who is watching from the office buildings in plain sight (which includes an FBI branch), Tomlin said, "I wonder about a lot of things" (ESPN.com, 8/23). In Pittsburgh, Chris Adamski noted the wall "stands maybe 100 feet high, blocking views from nearby an office building." But it "doesn’t even extend the full width of the football field it is (partially) hiding" (TRIBLIVE.com, 8/23). In Pennsylvania, Jacob Klinger noted Tomlin "declined to specify if he personally asked for the tarp's installation." He also "would not say if he had any reason to suspect the team had been looked at by opponents in the past" (PENNLIVE.com, 8/23).
