Media Notes

In Indianapolis, Zak Keefer noted former Colts radio voice Bob Lamey in a statement "acknowledged his use of 'an inappropriate word'" in light of accusations that his "use of a racial slur led to the abrupt end of his four-decade long radio career" (INDYSTAR.com, 8/21). Indianapolis-based WTHR-NBC's Jennie Runevitch reported just days before Lamey "announced his retirement," a complaint was made against him by a radio employee, "alleging he used the 'N-word.'" The employee said Lamey "used a racial slur off the air, in a conversation after a radio interview" at Colts Camp last Tuesday. Sources said that Lamey was "approached by the Colts Saturday about the alleged incident." On Sunday, the team "announced his retirement" (WTHR.com, 8/21).

CULTURE ISSUES: In N.Y., Kevin Dugan writes under the header, "Ex-Employees Detail Shocking 'Anything Goes' Culture At CBS Radio." Former CBS Radio sales exec Lauren Lockwood "claimed in a shocking July lawsuit" that CBS radio and Entercom "condoned a 'frat-house'-like work environment." The suit claims WFAN-AM host Joe Benigno "tried to pressure" Lockwood into sexual acts. Six former employees "across different CBS Radio units have come forward" to back up Lockwood's claims that the company "had an 'anything-goes' culture that ignored complaints about powerful men creating a hostile work environment" (N.Y. POST, 8/22).

LIKE A BOWLING STONE: Fox Sports and the PBA named the '19 Go Bowling! PBA Tour broadcasting team, with Rob Stone returning as play-by-play announcer alongside analyst Randy Pedersen and reporter Kimberly Pressler. The trio make their Fox debut Dec. 23 (PBA). In Albany, Pete Dougherty wrote Stone, who was on PBA broadcasts from '08-12 on ESPN, "aggravated many bowling fans by his lack of bowling knowledge and his creation of the term 'hambone' for four strikes in a row" (TIMESUNION.com, 8/21).
