FSU AD STAN WILCOX is leaving the school after five years to join the NCAA as Exec VP/Regulatory Affairs, according to Jim Henry of the TALLAHASSEE DEMOCRAT. Wilcox served as Duke Senior Deputy AD before he was hired at FSU in August '13, and two years ago, he "was promoted" to VP & AD as "part of a contract extension that was set to expire June, 30, 2020." FSU has "won three national titles during Wilcox’s tenure" -- football '13, soccer in '14 and softball this year. He also "oversaw upgrades to FSU’s athletic facilities, including Doak Campbell Stadium and the Tucker Civic Center" (TALLAHASSEE DEMOCRAT, 8/21). Wilcox is "filling the job vacated" when OLIVER LUCK "left to run the new XFL." Luck filled the role for "four years before stepping down in June" (AP, 8/20). In Orlando, Safid Deen notes Wilcox informed FSU President JOHN THRASHER of his "decision to leave in a final discussion of the matter on Sunday afternoon." Wilcox made his "first high-profile hire" with new football coach WILLIE TAGGART in December. Thrasher said, "He’s done well over his five years. I think this is just a great opportunity for him up there in Indianapolis close to his family, his kids, his grandkids -- all these kind of things." Thrasher said that Wilcox will "begin to transition out of his roles with the university through September." Thrasher is "optimistic" about the schools search for its new AD. Thrasher said, "I hope it's not a lengthy process. I hope to push it as fast as we can" (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 8/21).
