ISM Raceway President Bryan Sperber Leaving After Renovation

Sperber wants to move on to new projects after a more than 20-year career with ISCgetty images

ISM Raceway President BRYAN SPERBER is set to leave the venue this year after spending more than 15 years at the Phoenix-area track. Sperber informed his staff yesterday that he plans to leave after the track’s $178M renovation is completed this November. Sperber wants to move onto new projects after a more than 20-year career with ISC that included stops at Daytona, Watkins Glen, Auto Club Speedway and Phoenix. Sperber’s successor was not immediately clear. This move is the second track president change since JOIE CHITWOOD III became ISC COO & Exec VP in April ’16. ROGER CURTIS left Michigan Int'l Speedway in August '16 and was replaced by longtime MiLB exec RICK BRENNER. There was surprise from some industry execs throughout the sport yesterday when informed that Sperber was preparing to leave the venue, though others noted that rumors of his possible departure had popped up other times in recent years. The forthcoming completion of the renovation gives a chance for a new start (Adam Stern, Staff Writer). Sperber said, "I've been thinking about 'What's next?' for quite some time. With the project coming to a successful conclusion, I feel like in many ways I've accomplished so much here that maybe I had done all I could do." He added, "There is no animosity on anybody's part. I've had an incredible career with the France family and the company." Sperber said that he has "long been interested in entrepreneurial projects in sports, entertainment and consumer products and that ISC has been aware of that" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 8/20).
