NBC's "Today" profiled the new documentary, "KILLER BEES," which chronicles a championship high school basketball team and provides inspiration for an African-American community "facing challenges with race, class and job inequality" in a portion of the Hamptons. SHAQUILLE O'NEAL, who serves as Exec Producer for the film, said, "Nobody knows about this part of the Hamptons, so I wanted to spread the word." NBC's Craig Melvin said to O'Neal, "You spend a lot of time, and you spend a lot of your money as well, giving back." O'Neal: "I don't consider it giving back, I consider it doing what I was taught" ("Today," NBC, 8/20).

NAMES: The Univ. of Texas has "agreed to pay $600,000 to settle a race and gender discrimination lawsuit" filed by BEV KEARNEY after she was "forced out as women's track coach" in '13 (STATESMAN.com, 8/20)....The Mavericks yesterday held a pep rally at Sidney Lanier Expressive Arts Vanguard in Dallas, "donating athletic gear to 157 schools in the Dallas Independent School District and activity tracking devices" to 100,000 elementary school students (DALLASNEWS.com, 8/20)....Saints QB DREW BREES yesterday held his inaugural "Back to School Giveaway at Lusher Charter School" in New Orleans. Untuckit, the shirt brand, "partnered with the Brees Dream Foundation to donate 10,000 shirts to students from the Greater New Orleans Collaborative of Charter Schools" (THEADVOCATE.com, 8/20).
