League Notes

In Daytona Beach, Godwin Kelly writes if NASCAR Chair & CEO Brian France "doesn't return" from his leave, and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series GM Ben Kennedy is "too young to take the reins, look for NASCAR to hire someone to bridge the generational gap." Kelly lists "potential candidates" for the role, including ISC CEO Lesa France Kennedy (Ben Kennedy's mother), NASCAR President Brent Dewar, IndyCar President of Competition & Operations Jay Frye, NASCAR VP & Chief Racing Development Officer Steve O'Donnell, ISC Exec VP & COO Joie Chitwood, NASCAR Vice Chair Mike Helton and NASCAR COO Steve Phelps (Daytona Beach NEWS-JOURNAL, 8/15).

INTERNATIONAL GAME: NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said that the league may "host a pre-season NBA game in Mumbai next year." Silver said, "We have an academy on the ground now. We are potentially looking to play a game in Mumbai, maybe next year. It would be a pre-season game." He added, "If we do a pre-season game, we can build time and our players and their families can spend time, learn about the country's culture" (PRESS TRUST OF INDIA, 8/13).

FINDING THE RIGHT FIT: THE ATHLETIC's Lyndsey D'Arcangelo wrote under the header, "Bring Basketball Back: Buffalo Would Be A Great Fit For A WNBA Expansion Team." D'Arcangelo: "Why not make Buffalo a basketball town again?" The WNBA is "growing," and the timing of the league's season "works in Buffalo's favor." New York-based communications company Kirchmyer Media Owner Joe Kirchmyer said, "Buffalo sports fans have felt a void since the Buffalo Braves left town decades ago. Whether it's a WNBA team or an NBA Development League team, I think there would be support if the right venue was selected" (THEATHLETIC.com, 8/14).
