Franchise Notes

In Dallas, Brad Townsend cited a source as saying that the Mavericks are taking extra time with their investigation into claims of front office sexual harassment because the N.Y.-based attorneys are "being as thorough as humanly possible, dotting their i's and crossing their t's." NBA Commissioner Adam Silver on July 10 said that he "expected the investigation to conclude within the month." That came after Mavericks CEO Cynthia Marshall in mid-May said that the investigation "might conclude by the end of that month" (DALLASNEWS.com, 8/8).

BUILDING BRIDGES: In Houston, David Barron notes Astros officials have "agreed to meet with representatives" from several organizations that provide services to victims of domestic violence after acquiring P Roberto Osuna, who just completed a 75-game suspension for domestic violence. The meeting "looms as a significant step" in what the groups believe will be a "lasting relationship with the Astros that can influence attitudes in the struggle against violent behavior." No "visible signs are expected" at Minute Maid Park of the team's outreach to the various groups at tonight's game against teh Mariners, the first home game since Osuna joined the team (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 8/9).

YOU DECIDE: The Canucks are celebrating their 50th anniversary this season and announced they will be "sporting a throwback third jersey for select games." Fans can vote for one of three jerseys to serve as the throwback -- the "infamous Flying V" introduced in '78; the Flying Skate worn by the '94 Stanley Cup finalists; and the "original orca, worn on the navy blue and maroon sweaters of the West Coast Express era Canucks" (VANCOUVER SUN, 8/9).
