Virginia Gov. Makes Pitch For New Redskins Stadium In State

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam thinks the Redskins "will look at Loudoun County as a potential site for a new stadium," according to Adam Zielonka of the WASHINGTON TIMES. This is provided that the team "chooses to leave Maryland at all." Northam said that an area "out near Dulles" is where the team would look, but they have "got to make a decision." Northam: "Are they going to be back in Washington DC, Maryland or Virginia? Our doors are open and we'd welcome them." The Redskins' lease with FedExField expires in '27. Virginia is "already home" to the team's HQ, Redskins Park in Ashburn, and their "current training camp destination," Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Facility in Richmond (WASHINGTON TIMES, 8/8). In Richmond, Michael Phillips notes the state has "lobbied intensely for the stadium," as two-thirds of Redskins season-ticket holders "live in Virginia" (RICHMOND TIMES-DISPATCH, 8/8).
