Texas Turning Bevo Boulevard Into Party Area Before Home Games

Univ. of Texas AD Chris Del Conte wants to turn San Jacinto Boulevard next to Royal-Memorial Stadium into a "carnival-like atmosphere by removing cars and having a party" on game days, and the "new concept along 'Bevo Boulevard' will certainly be a radical change," according to Brian Davis of the AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN. UT hopes to create a "festive atmosphere before all Longhorns games" by offering "food trucks and $5 beer." Bevo Boulevard is "free and open to the public." Mascot Bevo XV will now "lead a street parade approximately 3 1/2-hours before kickoff each Saturday home game." UT said it will offer “the finest food truck flavors in Austin." Vendors will also "sell $5 16-ounce domestic beers, $6 16-ounce premium beers and $5 wine spritzers." Two giant LED screens will be "trucked in so fans can watch other Big 12 games." UT promises "interactive games, photo opportunities and activities for all fans." There also will be "autographs opportunities with select UT players and coaches" (AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN, 8/8).
