Overnight Ratings: WGC Up On CBS; Johnny Manziel Boosts CFL

CBS’ coverage of the final round the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational led all weekend sports telecasts with a 2.5 overnight rating yesterday, as Justin Thomas won by four strokes. Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy and Jason Day all finished in top 10, while Tiger Woods faded on the weekend and tied for 31st. The 2.5 is up 25% from the same event last year, when Hideki Matsuyama won by five strokes in an event Woods did not compete in. On Friday, Golf Channel drew a 0.8 overnight for second-round coverage, when most of Woods' round was in the coverage window. That marked the net's second-best Round 2 figure for the event on record ('07-18).

JOHNNY BE GOOD: ESPN2 drew a 0.3 overnight on Friday night from 7:30-10:30pm ET for the CFL Hamilton TigerCats-Montreal Alouettes matchup, which featured the CFL debut for QB Johnny Manziel. The former Heisman Trophy winner was benched after throwing four interceptions in the first half. By comparison, ESPN in the same time slot drew a 0.2 overnight for the championship game of The Basketball Tournament.
