Eagles Maintain Continuity With Roseman, Pederson Extensions

Eagles Exec VP/Football Operations Howie Roseman and coach Doug Pederson "received contract extensions" through '22, giving the franchise "continuity and making sure Pederson and Roseman have the same long-term contract stability," according to Zach Berman of the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER. Eagles Owner Jeffrey Lurie yesterday "kept talking about 'collaboration'" between Roseman and Pederson, but there is also a "clear split in the roles." Pederson has said that he "just wants to coach the team." Meanwhile, Roseman "maintains final say of the personnel and oversees the football operations." That delineation is "important." Those two now "appear entrenched in their jobs for the foreseeable future and the partnership appears to be strong" (PHILLY.com, 8/6). Lurie said that he "wanted to solidify the leadership that helped the Eagles win their first Super Bowl" last season. He "didn't want to lose the chemistry between Roseman and Pederson" (Delaware County DAILY TIMES, 8/6).

DON'T THINK TWICE: NBCSPORTS.com's Peter King writes extending the deals had to be "one of the easiest decisions" Lurie has ever made. Roseman entered this partnership with Pederson "needing an equal partner after the nightmare relationship with Chip Kelly." Lurie did the "smart thing, showing faith in both men to keep this excellent organization running smoothly" (NBCSPORTS.com, 8/6). NFL Network's Colleen Wolfe said the dual extensions show the Eagles have a "unified vision" and Lurie right now "has to be happy with that" ("NFL Total Access," NFL Network, 8/5). In Philadelphia, Dave Zangaro wrote Roseman and Pederson are both "legends in Philadelphia" and "poised to keep the Eagles competing for championships for the next several years." For Lurie to extend them had to be a "no-brainer" (NBCSPORTSPHILADELPHIA.com, 8/5). In Newark, Zack Rosenblatt writes after the best season in Eagles history, Lurie "likely didn't stress much about his decision [to] lock the powerful duo ... in for the foreseeable future." When asked about the Roseman-Pederson collaboration and whether he was "worried about any sort of power struggle" down the line, Lurie "quickly shot that down." Roseman and Pederson "seem headed for a long-term relationship and so far, it's a great one" (NJ.com, 8/6). NBCSN's Chris Simms said Roseman and Pederson are "phenomenal." Pederson should be lauded for "his energy, the life he's brought" to the Eagles and Roseman has "done an unbelievable job building that football team" ("PFT," NBCSN, 8/6).

IT'S ALL RIGHT: The INQUIRER's Berman notes the Eagles last night held their "first of two public practices" at Lincoln Financial Field. The team said that "more than 40,000 attended." It was an "impressive crowd, with the entire lower bowl full and fans into the second and third decks." After fans endured "heavy traffic because the Phillies game ended late Sunday afternoon, the seats were filled by the time practice picked up" (PHILLY.com, 8/6). NBCSPORTSPHILADEPHIA.com's Zangaro wrote he "walked into the Linc about two hours before the practice began and there was already a super long line to get in" (NBCSPORTSPHILADELPHIA.com, 8/5).
