Grizzlies Land FedEx Jersey Patch Deal As Part Of New Uniform Rollout

FedEx is the team's longest and most lucrative sponsor, with jersey sponsorship and arena naming-rights dealsgrizzlies

The Grizzlies have signed a jersey sponsorship deal with FedEx, becoming the 22nd NBA team to have a patch agreement. The deal was announced last night as part of the rollout of new uniforms and a new court design. Financial terms were not disclosed. The deal runs at least through the '20-21 season to coincide with the NBA's jersey patch pilot program. The team did not use an agency for the deal, which deepens Memphis-based FedEx' business relationship with the Grizzlies. The company has the team's arena naming rights and already is the franchise's longest and most lucrative sponsor (John Lombardo, Staff Writer).

FRESH REDESIGN: In Memphis, Peter Edmiston notes the newly-revealed Grizzlies jerseys "aren't a huge departure from the existing jerseys, with similar colors and schemes carrying over from years past." The major stylistic difference is the "reimagined wordmark, with the Grizzlies script taking on a curvier look on each of the three jerseys." There is also an "asymmetric aspect to the uniforms, with one side having a different logo and style to the other." Meanwhile, the Grizzlies on Thursday also "introduced a redesigned home court," with the painted area a "solid baby blue, and, uniquely, the grain of the wood on the floor running top to bottom rather than side to side." They will be the "only such team to feature such a configuration" (Memphis COMMERCIAL APPEAL, 8/3). The AP's Clay Bailey noted the new jerseys are "primarily darker blue and white, and the Grizzlies kept a baby blue known as Beale Street Blue 'statement' uniform in the mix." The team's grizzly bear logo "adorns the side of the darker blue uniform shorts." All of the jerseys have a "blue collar representative of the team's grit-and-grind characteristics, a mentality the Grizzlies hope to resurrect this season" (AP, 8/2).
