Franchise Notes

In DC, Tim Bontemps notes 76ers special adviser Jerry Colangelo termed his tenure with the team as "over, before clarifying that it is 'over at the end of the year.'" The 76ers will be "honoring that contract," but it "won't be renewed." Colangelo has been "stuck in a precarious personal position" after his son, former 76ers President of Basketball Operations Bryan Colangelo, was let go after his alleged involvement with burner accounts on Twitter. Jerry Colangelo said, "It's a very difficult summer for him, and his family" (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 7/30).

PALACE INTRIGUE: In Toronto, Steve Simmons writes former Canucks President Trevor Linden was, "for lack of a better word, fired" by Canucks Chair Francesco Aquilini. Linden was "caught in the middle of a power struggle and a hockey struggle of sorts, with an impatient Aquilini on one side" and Canucks GM Jim Benning and Assistant GM John Weisbrod "nastily selling out" Linden. Sources said that ownership "isn't so committed to a long-term rebuild and really wants to make the playoffs now" (TORONTO SUN, 7/28).

IN LIMBO: As the Raiders begin training camp, things remain "up in the air" about where the team will play in '19. After months of negotiations, the Raiders and the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Authority "still don't have a lease agreement in place to house" the team beyond the upcoming season. The team is "scheduled to start playing" in Las Vegas in '20, "leaving a one-year gap" (LAS VEGAS SUN, 7/28).
