Nike's compensation committee seemed intent on keeping Edwards long termGETTY IMAGES

Former Nike Brand President TREVOR EDWARDS got a 14% "raise in base salary" in June '17, the "largest given to any top Nike executive last year and a possible sign the company's board didn't expect him to resign" less than nine months later. When Nike's compensation committee met in June '17, it "seemed intent on keeping Edwards long term," awarding him a $6M "retention award" in stock and the 14% raise in base salary. At the time, Nike was "in a rare slump." Nike Chair, President & CEO MARK PARKER "did not get a raise in base salary." The retention award and raise "pushed" Edwards' overall compensation package ($9.8M) to the "highest in the company" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 7/25).

GRIDIRON NEWS: Giants Senior VP & GM DAVE GETTLEMAN's cancer is "in remission" as he "continues to undergo chemotherapy to combat lymphoma." Gettleman was "at the team facility" as training camp started, and "tries to spend as much time as he can in his office" (N.Y. POST, 7/27)....The Saints have been "ordered by an NFL arbitrator to pay more than $384,000 to a fired personal assistant" to late team Owner TOM BENSON. The Saints were "ordered to pay RODNEY HENRY $100,000 plus interest for unpaid overtime and $94,300 plus for the violation of a clause in his employment contract." The Saints were also ordered to "pay Henry's attorneys' fees of $190,000" (NOLA.com, 7/27)....The Dolphins "continued their community work" with South Florida police departments when the team "hosted a backpack distribution" after Thursday's practice. The team and local police hosted 600 local children, who were "given backpacks filled with school supplies" (SUN-SENTINEL.com, 7/26).

NAMES: The USOC has "dismissed a complaint" by former USWNT G HOPE SOLO that "accused the U.S. Soccer Federation of illegally favoring" MLS. Solo "filed the complaint in January" when she was "among the candidates running for USSF president" (ESPN.com, 7/26)....The Bay Area Host Committee announced the addition of 49ers GM JOHN LYNCH, NFL Network's STEVE MARIUCCI and Pro Football HOFer STEVE YOUNG to its Exec BOD (BAHC)....USAIN BOLT's agent RICKY SIMMS said that the "race" to sign Bolt to a soccer team is between the USL Austin Aztex and A-League Central Coast Mariners in Australia. Reports "surfaced last week" that USL club Las Vegas Lights FC was "interested in signing Bolt, but that the cost would likely be too high" (AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN, 7/27)....Wizards G BRADLEY BEAL and his girlfriend KAMIAH ADAMS "welcomed their first child on July 23" (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 7/26).
