Magic CMO Anthony Perez Leaving Team For CEO Role At VenueNext

Tech outfit VenueNext named Magic CMO ANTHONY PEREZ its new CEO, succeeding company Founder JOHN PAUL. Perez, a ’17 SBJ/SBD "Forty Under 40" honoree, will officially start July 30 and will be based out of the company’s N.Y. office beginning early next year. The shift comes as the 64-year-old Paul will move to a less intensive role as Vice Chair & Advisor. The Magic have been a key client of VenueNext, using the company’s technology to help power a mobile-driven fan experience. “This is something I’ve been in consultation with the board about since last year, and it’s a good time to transition to the next generation,” Paul said. “Anthony understands the sports business intimately, sees the value we can bring to other verticals, and critically, really understands our culture.” The search was done with the aid of Daversa Partners, which also led the process leading to Action Network’s hires in May of CEO NOAH SZUBSKI and Chief Product Officer MATT RESTIVO. Perez said he was not seeking to leave the Magic prior to being approached about the VenueNext role.
