Facility Notes

In Las Vegas, Mick Akers notes some residents have "wondered what would happen with the construction" of the Raiders' stadium if "room-tax revenue fell short" of the planned $750M in public contributions. If hotel room-tax revenue "began to dip below required amounts for a prolonged time, a reserve fund exists to handle such a scenario." As a precaution, the Las Vegas Stadium Authority is "working toward a safety net of two years’ worth" of room-tax funds (LAS VEGAS SUN, 7/23).

WAIT AND SEE: In Austin, Kevin Lyttle noted a number of skeptics on the city council "still need to be convinced" that the McKalla Place site is the "right place" for an MLS stadium in Austin. The city council is currently on summer break and "will sort it all out at its next work session Aug. 7 and meeting Aug. 9." Crew owner Precourt Sports Ventures is "under the gun to have an answer by then because MLS is waiting to formalize" its '19 schedule, and the team "plans to move" to Austin by the end of this year. The Crew "would play in a temporary stadium for two years" (AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN, 7/21).
