Sources: Dolphins Consider Moving Training Facility Near Stadium

The Dolphins are "considering moving their training facility to team-owned land just west of Hard Rock Stadium," according to sources cited by Adam Beasley of the MIAMI HERALD. The new complex would be "privately funded and cost upwards" of $75M. It would be "ready for use in two years and would give the Dolphins both the space they need and the proximity to Hard Rock that many in the organization desire." The move "would finally put all team employees together on the same plot of land." For decades, ticketing and business staffs "worked at the stadium while football operations were up the turnpike" in Davie County. The team is "considering at least three possible locations: remaining in Davie, expanding in Miami Gardens or building in Miramar." Should the Dolphins pick Miami Gardens, it "would bring" Dolphins Owner Stephen Ross’ total investment in his stadium property to more than $600M since '15. Building a football HQ there would make for a "crowded plot of land, cutting into the stadium’s thousands of parking spots." They "simply have run out of space at Nova, as evidenced by the temporary trailers put up around the gated property" (MIAMI HERALD, 7/15).

NO PLACE LIKE HOME? In Charlotte, Scott Fowler noted the Panthers have "spent the summer at Wofford College in Spartanburg since their inception, but that may change" starting in '20. The Panthers "appear destined to [join] the ranks of keeping it all in-house" by '20 or shortly thereafter under new Owner David Tepper (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 7/14).
