WBZ-FM Once Again Top Station In Boston Sports Radio Market

WBZ-FM "remained the top-rated station" in the Boston market in the spring Nielsen Audio ratings, while WEEI-FM "finished second," according to Chad Finn of the BOSTON GLOBE. WBZ "earned a 10.6 share overall in the men 25-54 demographic" for March 29-June 20, while WEEI finished with a 7.2 share. In an "always contentious battle among morning drive programs," WBZ' "Toucher and Rich" finished first with a 10.2 share, while WEEI's "Kirk and Callahan" was second with a 9.4. Among midday ratings, WBZ' "Zo and Beetle" show "was second (9.2), while WEEI's 'OMF' show was third (8.8)." In the afternoon drive, WBZ' "Felger and Massarotti" "remained the highest-rated program in the market, finishing first with 14.7 share." WEEI's "Dale and Keefe" was second with a 6.8. The figures do not include Providence-based WVEI-FM, which also airs WEEI content, despite the fact WVEI "comes in better in the Boston market in some areas than does WEEI" (BOSTON GLOBE, 7/13).

THE MIS IS AWESOME: In Philadelphia, Rob Tornoe reports WPEN-FM's Mike Missanelli "has reclaimed the top spot in the afternoons for Philadelphia sports radio" after losing the winter book to WIP-FM's Jon Marks and Ike Reese. The difference was "less than a share among men ages 25 to 54, the most important listening demographic" for both stations. Missanelli "ended the period in third place, while Marks and Reese finished narrowly behind him in fourth." Outside of Missanelli, WPEN has "been unable to keep up with WIP in any other daypart." WIP "finished third in the market for the quarter," beating WPEN by "over three full ratings shares." WPEN "ended the period in fifth." WIP's team of Angelo Cataldi, Al Morganti and Rhea Hughes "finished the quarter more than seven full shares ahead" of WPEN's Anthony Gargano and Bob Cooney, "more than doubling" WPEN's ratings. WIP's duo of Joe DeCamara and Jon Ritchie "continued to solidify their hold on middays with an impressive third-place finish," doubling WPEN's midday team of Harry Mayes and Jason Myrtetus' ratings (PHILLY.com, 7/12).
